Mrs. Anika Uboh Inspires the Next Generation of Innovators at Elementary’s STEAM-Tastic Day

Mrs. Anika Carter-Uboh, Civil & Environmental Engineer and Executive Leader with J.S. Uboh Global Enterprises Inc., delivered an inspiring, hands-on learning experience for more than 100 fourth- and fifth-grade students during a recent STEAM-Tastic Day held at an elementary school in the Metro Atlanta region.
The annual event brings together leaders from the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics to spark curiosity, promote innovation, and expose young learners to real-world career pathways. As a featured STEAM presenter, Mrs. Uboh shared her personal journey as an engineer—highlighting her work designing infrastructure, sustainable communities, transportation systems, and environmental protection projects across the country.
She explained what engineers do, how they solve problems that impact everyday life, and how students can begin developing the traits that make great future engineers: creativity, curiosity, and resilience.
“Engineering is about improving the world around us,” Mrs. Uboh told the students. “You can start today by believing your ideas matter and by staying curious about how things work.”
Mrs. Uboh also led the students through an interactive Earthquake-Proof Tower Challenge, using simple materials—spaghetti noodles, marshmallows, and a paper plate—to design and build structural towers capable of withstanding a simulated “earthquake.” The activity introduced foundational engineering concepts such as stability, load distribution, geometric design, and teamwork.
Educators and students responded with excitement, energy, and deep engagement throughout the session. In a message to event participants, the school’s principal shared heartfelt appreciation:
“Your enthusiasm, creativity, and active participation truly made the day memorable and inspiring. Planting the seeds in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math will continue to grow as students nurture their passion for learning and innovation. Your involvement helps to expand these fields. For that reason, I am thankful.”
